Description
Studying Mystery Damage To Ships. The British Shipbuilding Research Association is using models in a testing tank made by Vickers Armstrongs at St.Albans, Herts, to study the mystery motion of the sea which can cause damage to ships' bottom shell plating. When ships are pitching, high pressure are generated between their hulls and the water - the cause of which is unknown. A carriage above the tank, which moves with the models, records what happens to them. Heavy weather conditions are created by a wavemaker. Keystone Photo Shows:- The new wavemaker used in the St. Albans ship model experimental tank.

Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
