Studying Mystery Damage to ships. The British Shipbuilding Research Association is using models in a testing tank made by Vickers Armstrongs at St. Albans, Herts, to study a mystery motion of the Sea which can cause damage to ship's bottom shell plating. When ships are pitching high pressures are generated their hulls and the water - the cause of which is unknown. A carriage above the testing tank, which moves with the models, records what happens to them. Photo shows A technician taking readings on the traveling carriage above the experimental tank.
