Swearing - in of Kenya's new cabinet: Following Kenya's recent General Elections the country's third since Independence was attained in 1963 - President Kenyatta and his new Ministers and Assistant Ministers were sworn in during a public ceremony in Nairobi's Uhuru Park attended by mant thousands of people. Sixteen of the Ministers of the previous twenty-man Cabinet retained their seats and they all found seats in the new Cabinet, though several portfolois were changed around. There were five newcomers: four to replace the Minister who had lost their seats including Foreign Minister Dr. Njarage Mungai - and one to take charge of a new Ministry: for Water development. History was made by the inclusion of one women, Dr. Julia Ojiamba, among the Assistant Ministers. Dr. Ojiamba is one of six women Members of the current Kenya Parliament: four of them elected and two others nominated by the President.
