Sarah goes up in a balloon; Glenda Jackson, portraying the great actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) in the Lavish Reader's Digest film "Sarah", now in production in England, took off in a balloon near London last weekend. In the film the scene takes place in Paris in the 1870's when Sarah, then a rebellious young actress with the Comedie Francoise, decide to go ballooning in the Beis de Boulogne but was carried off course by strong winds, missed three performances and was fired. Historically, Bernard took off from the Beis in 1878, seven years after the Seige of Paris (1870-71) during the Franco Prussian war when ballooning was not a hobby but a vital element in the city's survival.
