Mending Lincoln Cathedral; Cathedral Stonesman Ronald James is seen at work on a vast operation, the repair of Lincoln Cathedral. The Cathedral was built in the 13th century largely from limestone, which tends to dissolve in the rain and as the building stands on a hill with no high ground to the eastwards before you reach Russia it is very exposed to the elements. The repair work is going to last for several years, and an appeal has been launched for ~200,000, which is being responded to at a rate of ~1 every 90 minutes. Cathedral stonemasons are very few and far between nowadays, Ronald James who is 41 has worked on Lincoln Cathedral ever since he left the army - his reward ~10 a week.
