1959 Press Photo A police constable & others arrested for bank robbery

A police constable and three men accused of an £18,000 bank paid. 39-year-old Metropolitan Police-constable George Albert Askew was charged with three other men at Waltham Cross, Essex, yesterday of breaking into Chinford's National Provincial Bank and stealing cash and jewellery worth £18,103. The men and two women a mother and daughter were also accused of receiving part of the stolen money. All the accused were remanded for a week, the men in custody and the women on bail. Photo shows with their faces covered the two women in the case, 24-year-old Beryl Irving (front) is followed by her mother 57-year-old Mrs. Rose Irving (at back). Both were remanded for a week on bail of £100 each. The woman in the centre is unidentified.
