Description
One of the sights of Lacau is this ruin of St. Paul's church of which only the facade and the steps remain. Designed by father Pianola in was completed in 1837, the work being doe by Japanese Christian and it was considered a wonder of the time. Though called St. Paul's today, it was built as the church of the mother of god. attached to the church was a college and seminary from which missionaries went out to china and the Sar east. The seminary caught fire in 1835 and the flames spread to the church. Today the steps are used as a short cut by pedestrians to reach their homes on the other side of the hill.
