Description
THE BALLOON THAT GOT OUT COURSE. A 100ft girth balloon, yesterday came down on the garage of the house where 95-year old Mr. John Wolford lives with his wife, aged 91, in Beattyville Gardens, in Barking. That was after it had drifted gently over the Bank of England and the stock exchange. Watchers in the city noted its parachute and radio must and wondered whether it was an overblown flying saucer. The Air Ministry denied it was one of their balloons. The London weather Centre disowned it too. Finally it turned out that the balloon belonged to the Physics Department of Bristol University. They had released it at Cardington, Bedfordshire, hoping it would go into outer space. Instead it went to Barking. PHOTO SHOWS: The balloon deflated and off course in Beattyville Gardens, barking, yesterday.

Photo measures 8 x 10.5 inches.
