German Play Creates Controversy All Over The World... Accuses Pope of "Not Standing Up To Hitler".!! A play - which accuses the late Pope Pius XII of not standing up to Hitler during the war - is to be presented in London by the Royal Shakespeare Company in September.. It is called "The Representative" - or "The Vicar" - and was written by 32 year old Protestant Rolf Hochhuth who was a member of the Jungvolk, the Nazi organisation for children. Herr Hochhuth alleges that Pope Pius refrained from condemning Nazi persecution of the Jews. He did so, the play claims, because of a 'Concordat' he signed with Germany before the War and fear of a Communist victory. The play was presented at the "Theatre am Kurfürstendamm" in Berlin - with Karl-Heinz Kellerman in the part of the Pope with Gunter Tabor as "Riccardo"... Keystone Photo Shows:- Karl-Heinz Kellerman as Pope Pius XII - and Gunther Tabor as "Riccardo" the Vatican priest - hero of the play - in Berlin.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
