Daring Mail Van Robbery In London: Bandits last night ambushed a post office mail van in the tunnel which runs under the Strand into Kingsway, and got away with registered mail worth about ~30,000, after blocking the Waterloo-bridge entrance with "road closed" signs. They coshed the van driver and stole 80 mailbags. 40 minutes after the raid, the Post office driver, 67 year old Mr. Walter Smith, wa~ dumped from the bandits' car outside a hospital in Stepney. He was suffering from head injuries. Photo Shows: The mail van being tested for fingerprints after last nights' daring robbery in the Strand underpass.
