Mr. Winkler has made hundreds of tiny models all of which have some historical connection with the Coronation. Here his assistant Mrs. Honegold puts a trayful into the cupboard ready for despatch. German makes models for coronation; 62 year old Frederick Winkler, a refugee from the Nazis who is one of the foremost of model makers, is now making Coronation models at his home at Deal. Most of them will be going to the big stores in the U.S.A. They include replicas of the coach and coronation officials. Herr Winkler normally makes historical figures for private collectors. He was born in Upper Silesia, the son of rank director. her left Germany in 1929 "because it was unbearable'. He was interned for six months at the outbreak of war, but was released and went to work for the Admirality. He was able to provide them with scale models of every navy in the world.
