The Lively Arts.: Orpheus in the Underground Julian Littman as Orpheus and Joanna Carlin as Eurydice in Orpheus in the underground. This specially commissioned half-hour pop opera - the BBC's entry for the 1977 Salzburg Opera Competition - can be seen in 'The Lively Arts' on BBC-2, Sunday June 5. Orpheus, whose music has the power to entrance his listeners is here updated to the role of a busker in the London Underground. His girl-friend, Eurydica, is pursued by an amorous commuter and the story unfolds amidst the tunnels trains. lifts and escalators of a weird and wonderful Underworld.
