16-12-58 Election of twenty three new Cardinals at the Vatican â The twenty three new Cardinals elected at the secret consistory, received a letter from a Vatican Official in which Pope John XXIII announced them as having been elected. The new cardinals will be consecrated on Dec. 18th during a public consistory. Keystone Photo Shows: Three of the new Cardinals in Rome yesterday.
