First Glimpses of Experimental guided weapons ship; Little has been officially released about H.M.S. Girdle Ness (8,580 standard tons displacement), the British Navy's guided weapons trials ship. Formerly a landing craft maintenance ship after three years of conversion, she was commissioned in her present experimental role in 1956 when she began tests. She recently returned to Devonport, England, after a new series of trials in the Mediterranean where she tested thee Seaslug, the Royal Navy's medium range ground to air missile. These first glimpses of her were ten released. Photo Shows Top: Men working in the loading cradle space beneath one of the firing ramps.
