1968 Press Photo Yacht Race Only Woman Crew Member Edith Baumann Kaola III

Preparing to face the Atlantic Alone: On Saturday (June 1), 43 yachts from 10 countries, with 3,000 miles of lonely Atlantic ahead of them set out from Plymouth single-handed for Newport, Rhode Island. Yesterday yachtsmen were stowing gear and stores in readiness for the start. Photo shows the only woman in the race, Frau Edith Baumann, of West Germany, was busy aboard her 39ft. sloop-rigged trimaran Kaola III.
