Sir Arthur Lewis, a native of the West Indies and a British Subject, became the first black to receive a Nobel prize in a category other than peace today when he was jointly awarded the Nobel memorial prize in Economic Science with Theodore W. Schultz, 77, of the University of Chicago Sir Arthur, 64, teaches Economics at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton.
