Lone sailor beats chichester record. David Scott Cowper, the 38 year - old lone sailor from Newcastle - span - Tyne, reached Plymouth yesterday in his 40ft yacht, ocean bound, 248 days after setting off to sail around the world. He beat, by one day, the record of 226 days set by the late sir Francis chichestrer, for the number of days spent at sea. photo shows The ocean bound with David Scott Cowper aboard sails in to Plymouth yesterday.
