South Africa to be a Republic. South Africa's "Whites only" referendum resulted last night in a majority of 73,980 in favour of a republic . The vote is a triumph for the Premier. Dr. Hendrick Verwoerd who has told voters that the country would remmain in the Commonwealth. Photo shows Wearing a rosette with the words "No". her grandfather's Crimeans War Medals and her husband's Boar War Medal, Mrs. M. Rose. of Belgravia, Johannesburg, who came to South Africa in 1912, goes off to vote.
