Description
Turkish Anger over killing of German Canoe-Ists.: A wave of national anger and self reproach has swept over Turkey following the arrest of two men for the brutal killing of a young German engaged couple who were touring Turkey by Canoe. The two men, Cafer Guler and Zeki Ozalp, who were arrested in their village of Polatli, were nearly Lynched by the other villagers who were shouting "leave it to us to kill them, they have befouled the name of Turkey". The murdered couple, Miss Renata Colschen and Peter Nemitz, were both from West Berlin, and had paddled all the way from Berlin to Istanbul by river, and were returning to be married. The two arrested men heard people in the village talking about the couple who were camping nearby, and especially about the beauty of Renata, so they went to the tent while the couple were asleep, shot the boy and raped and shot the girl, after which they tied stones to their bodies and threw them in the river where they were found 12 days later. Photo shows the murdered couple, Renata Colschenan and Peter Nemitz.

Photo measures 8 x 10 inches.
