"Flying Crab" Hovercraft begins passengers service : History was were yesterday when the 11 ton 24 seater Vickera-Armstrong 3 Hovercraft complete the 19 mile stretch between Wallasey and Rhyl across the Des estuary in half an hour at a speed of nearly 70 mph. Looking like some giant flying crab it took the first passengers for 2 return. The service is for 8 weeks , 6 days a week, six times a day. 4,000 tickets out of a possible 14,000 have been sold already. Holiday makers will save ip to 1 1/2 hours on the journey.
