Trackman Max Bittner Went 100 000 Kilometres In 18 Years: Three pairs of shoes a year that is the average use of Max Bittner (48) (Max Bittner, picture). Two and a half times around the globe, so far the trackman of the German Bundesbahn went till now. At that time he works on the 34 kilometres long stage between the stations Emskirchen and Helmitzheim - on the route Furemberg-Wuerzburg/West-Germany. How often he went this way, he couldn't remember true."18 years ago I Started my job in Kitzinger/West-Germany and 14 years ago I came to this district", declares the friendly railway official. "During a month I walk 500 kilometers, daily a stage of 18 or 16 kilometres"! Equipment with a bugle, detonators (to warn the engine-driver before eventual barriers) and a giant spanner, the reliable official controls summer and winter and all days the overhead lead and the good fit of screws which connect rails and sleepers. That is Max Bittner is very proud of: During his length of service no accident had happened, the safety was always perfect!
