May 27th, 1971 Earthquake disaster in Eastern Turkey - More than 800 bodies were reported to have been recovered after Saturday night's earthquake in Eastern Turkey. The epicenter of the earthquake was near Bingol, a province of some 150,000 in habitants, leveling villages and towns. More than 300 people died under tumbling buildings in Bingol town alone, a town of 17,000 inhabitants. Photo Shows: Rescue operations being carried out amidst earthquake damage in Bingol.
