March 31st, 1969 53 die in Turkish earthquake â 53 people were reported dead and more than 300 injured in an earthquake which hit Western Anatolia, Turkey, on Friday. The Turkish Interior Ministry said that the centre of the earthquake was Alasehir, about 100 kilometers from Manisa. Photo shows: The scene showing devastated housed in a village near Alasehir.
