Rooftop drama in Bloomsbury Policewoman make Dramatic Rescue: For eight minutes yesterday as hundreds of people watched from below - thirty year old Thomas French stood precariously balanced at the top of a four storey building - sixty feet above the street in Bloomsbury-London-holding his eighteen months old son Stewart in his arms - threatening to jump off. French said that he had been evicted from his home and that his wife had left him . Fireman and Policewoman Margaret Cleland (23) gathered on the roof and tried to reason with him. Margaret talked - and talked and slowly edged her way nearer to French - and Finally just managed to grab the baby - while policemen caught hold of French and stopped him toppling off the roof. Photo shows Margaret Cleland hands over a bar of chocolate to Thomas French for the baby during the Bloomsbury drama yesterday.
