He Smuggled His Girl Into the Country in the Boot Of His CAr: Sixteen year old Heide Kohlr a german girl was in a remand home awaiting deportation last night. She had been smuggled into the country in the boot of twenty seven year old Edward Taylor's car after being refused permission to marry. Edward a former Lance Corporal physical training instuctor in the Worcestershire Regiment met Heide nine months ago-they fell in love. They told her parents they intended to get engaged next Christmas-but were told they could not do so-as he was not earning enough money. They crossed the channel from Calais to Dover-she hiding in the hold of the ship-and in the car boot when going through costume. Until Jan. 26th, when Taylor was demobbed-she stayed with friends in married quarters at Lydd Armt camp-Kent. then they moved to Lichfield, two days ago police tracked them down. Photo shows. Edward Taylor-and Heide Kohle. She must return to her home in Germany.
