Aida Performance in Luxor; For the first in hundred years Guiseppe Verdi's Famous Opera "Aida" will be performed among the ancient ruins in Egypt. In 1870 the Viceroy of Egypt, had ordered this master work to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal. It was first staged on December 24, 1871 in front of the Pyramids. the new performance will take place in front of the Amun temple in the centre of today's luxor. Photo shows. Natives preparing the stage for the performance, in the background the grandstands.
