Rescuers Lose Three-Way Race Against Death. Woman Crashed 250 Feet Down Cliff Face: A dramatic race against death was made at North Head - Sydney - Australia recently - in an effort to save gravely injured Mrs. Ida May Reed of Her bord - who fell 250 feet down the sheer cliff face - as her husband was trying to lower her over the side on a rope. After lying there for 100 mins- Mrs. Reed was raised to the top by police and troops and rushed to hospital - where she died later. The alarm was raised by the husband - frantic Robert Reed and Police launches - and a pilot steamer from South Head rushed across the bay - while troops and police worked from the top. The accident happened when Mr. and Mrs. Reed were planning on a fishing expedition and after reaching the cliff face- he lowered his wife over the side - and saw the rope parting - and she plunged to the bottom.
