Exploding tanks shake fifteen mine countryside: An army of 200 firemen battled among exploding tanks of napthalene today to prevent fire destroying the mammoth Shellhaven on the Thames. A mass of flames as high as the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral roared upwards as red hot tanks exploded. The first tank exploded at 4 a.m. and one of the tanks which went up contained 900 tons of high grade spirit. Photo shows the Pall of smoke which roars into the sky following the explosion at Shellhaven Oil Refinery today.

Photo measures 10.25 x 8 inches.

Photo is dated 02-02-1955.
