JAPANESE FARMERS DEMAND HIGHER RICE PRICES IN TOKYO RALLY. Ignoring the rain, over 11,000 Japanese rice growers March through the streets of Tokyo to demand higher prices for their grain, and "back pay" to compensate for "inadequacy" of last year's price to cope with inflation. Among the demands is a 64,75 increase in producers rice price, and the "back pay" is to compensate them for last year's government fixed rice price, which they claim did not meet the sharp rise in labour costs, agricultural, materials, equipment, and daily necessities sparked by the oil crisis.
