Canvas Bunks take Place of Hammocks in new British Aircraft Carriers.: To improve living conditions of ship's Companies - canvas bunks are to replace the traditional hammock in the two new aircraft carriers the Centaur and Albion. The bunks are so designed that they can be stowed when not in use and the extra space for which 'nests' of tables are provided - can be used for recreational purposes. Photo shows Scene in the Ordinary Seamen's mess deck - as two A.B's use the canvas bunks as they chat to colleagues whos bunks are stacked alongside the wall - aboard H.M.S. Centaur at Portsmouth today.
