1,000 arrested in yesterday's ban-the-bomb sit -down demonstration in Trafalgar Square: ban-the Bomb demonstrators jammed the cells of London police stations last night after the big sit-down in Trafalgar Square. Soon after midnight - seven hours after the protest began - more than 1,000 arrests had been made. The planned march to a mass sit-down in Parliament Square never came off because a solid blue line of police trapped the demonstrators in Trafalgar Square. photo shows Canon John Collins, Precentor of St. Paul's Cathedral, and chairman of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, does not support the sit-down, but he was later arrested.

Photo measures 10.25 x 8 inches.

Photo is dated 9-18-1961.
