HOVERPLATFORM DEMONSTRATED AT LONDON AIRPORT: A demonstrated of a Hoverplatform as a possible means of moving disabled aircraft, and for other airport uses, was staged at Heathrow this morning by Air Cushion Equipment, Ltd, Southampton, in co-operation with British Airports Authority and the B.O.A.C. The Hoverplatform demonstrated is 30 foot long and consists of a steel structure around which is fitted a flexible segmented skirt. Lift power is be centrifugal fans driven by two 95 b.h.p. petrol engines. Production models will be diesel powered. While this hover unit has a lift capacity of 7 tons, platforms can be constructed in modular from, for use in complexes of 4-12 units to move aircraft of varying sizes.
