BALED CORK, TRANSPORTED BY SPECIAL MATERIALS HANDLING EQUIPMENT AT PORT NEWARK, IS IMPORTANT NEW COMMODITY ATTRACTED TO THE NEW JERSEY SEAPORT UNDER PORT AUTHORITY OPERATION AND PROMOTION. THE 15,000 TONS OF CORK WHICH MOVED THROUGH PORT NEWARK IN 1953 REPRESENTED A THIRD OF THE CORK IMPORTS IN THE PORT OF NEW YORK. MOST OF THE CORK IS CONSIGNED TO NORTH NEW JERSEY INDUSTRIES.
