Thirty five year old- wealthy businessman Anthony Boydon was to be seen on the Clyde yesterday - during the test of his new $40,000 racing yacht - "Sovereign"- before she is sent to Newport, Rhode Island - if she proves she is capable of beating Sceptre" the unsuccessful 1958 challenger for the cup... Mr. Boydon has so far spent $125,000 on preparations for the attempt and it will cost him another $125,000 to get the vessel on the starting line for the much sought after America Cup... The "sovereign" was launched 11 days ago - she is 69 ft long; has a waterline length of 49 ft. 6 inc - a beam of 12ft. 3 in. - and a draught of 9 ft...
