Danish match-factories experiment in breeding trees for matches of future: Millions of matches are made in Denmark every year - but most of the wood for them is imported from other countries. Now the Danish match producing factories have decided to breed special trees for the production of matches of the future. A fine Mother-trees has been pollinated with pollen from suitable make trees. The maternal asp tree stands at Hereholm North of Copenhagen - and in order to prevent its pollination by pollen from trees of lesser strain - it is protected by a ver~~ble plastic hose. The pollination in carried out by men using fins dust sprays which contain the pollen from fine male trees from another area of sealand. Photo shows two views showing how the maternal tree is pollinated by means of a powder spray - and also how it is being protected by its plastic house.
