A Cliff Side Home Problem Solved: Retired City businessman Ian Scott Duffus has solved the problem of transporting groceries, fuel and olderly visitors up 50 steps to his cliff side home. He has installed a cable car railway to run them 80' up Spion Kop Hill, overlooking Salcombe harbour in South Devon. The four-seater carriage takes a minute to slide up the concrete track, giving visitors a magnificent view over the Salcombe estuary. Mr. Duffus, 55, admitted his house was built on a rather unusual site. "A few years ago it was considered unusable for building purposes, because of the steepness of the hill. But until the railway was installed a few months ago the big drawback was getting luggage, shopping and old people to the top of the steps. "Tradesmen, especially the coalman, find it easier to travel up in style instead of slogging up the steps." Photo Shows Mr. Ian Scott Duffus in his cable car railway.
