Tuna Fish Still Popular: Despite warnings from health organizations that tuna fish contain a high amount of mercury, most Japanese appear to ignore the advice, and plentiful supplies continue to be brought to Japanese ports from the South Seas. Some Japanese tuna boats stay away fishing for nine months, and bring back their catches in freezing chambers where the termperate is as low as 40 degrees centigrade below zero. A bigtuna will fetch as much a ~200 or more in Japan. It is cut in thin slices and eaten raw in Japan, and is considered a delicacy. Photo shows Frozen tuna fish are unloaded from a Japanese fishing boat at the Tokyo fish market.
