Press Photo Volunteers Karlsruhe West Germany Toad Crossing Streets Relocating

"Caution - Toads pass!"... .... one can see now again on traffic signs at streets in the surrounding of Karlsruhe (West-Germany). In the darkness, when it rains and when the weather is warm, in spring thousands of toads cross the streets to come to their spawning places. Naturally a lot of them are killed by cars. Now voluntary helpers built up fences to catch the toads, for there they gather and then they are brought across the street without danger. OPS: Volunteers during their works, which not seldom begins at night.
