This was the scene in one of Britain's Biggest Bookmaker's Offices After The ban On Racing: There is a ban on all race meetings in Britain owing to the Foot-and-mouth epidemic, and this was the scene in the betting offices of William Hill's in London, one of the biggest bookmakers. Yesterday Sandra Watterton, a 17-year-old bets-room operator (left) and Christine Bates, 19, telephonist, sat together knitting and dealing with a trickle of calls; people betting on next year's National. Normally at Peak time the office contains 400 People, taking bets at 200 an hour. At the present time the ban on racing is costing Mr. Hill shout ~50,000 a week.
