The army wanted to demo "Orphan Joe" - But he proves he is fit - to soldier on. Seventeen year old Joe Hardisty who was told that he was medically unfit for Army service - jumped for joy yesterday. He leaped from a 12 ft. concrete block outside the Tate gallery in London after passing a tough three hour medical examination at the nearby Millbank hospital. Seven weeks ago - Private Joe - an orphan was told he would have to be discharged because of a minor ches ailment.. Because he was so keen - his - C.O. appealed to the top Army bass for Joe to be given another medical. Them Joe began a toughening up course by a three mile run around the camp every day at 5 a.m. Then over the camp Assault course each morning - and he took up swimming.. Now he has been passed A.l. by the Authorities. he will rejoin his unit The Green Howards.. Photo Shows: Joe Hardisty jumps for joy - when he learned he could stay in the army.
