Andrean Condor less than 24 hours old, after it hatched at New York's Bronx Zoo. The condor is the world's largest flying bird, and at adulthood will have a wingspan over 101/2 feet, weigh 25 pounds. Hatching in captivity is rare. The Condor baby was named Acheson, had 61/2 oz when it hatched on March 29, 1978. This picture was made available to us now only. We have learned that Acheson is doing fine, but can not be left with its parents and is not yet being shown to visitors of the zoo.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.

Photo is dated 6--1978.
