Description
Revealing the Ancient ''Sun Boat'' of Cheops moving the first of the forty limestone blocks.: Many well known personalities were presented yesterday when the first of forty limestone blocks each weighing two tons was removed from the chamber containing the ''Sun Ship'' discovered alongside the Great Pyramid of Cheops at Giza last May. The aperture made visible some thirteen feet below the surface the blackened prow of the boat which was placed there nearly 6,000 years ago to carry Cheops into eternity. Previously the boat was only visible though a peep-hole drilled in a slab of stone last May - to prove its existence. It is thought to be the oldest structure of its kind in the world. The ''sun boat'' was discovered by Kaml Malakh. Photo shows the scene as labourers push the first of the forty two ton blocks of limestone to reveal the ''Sun boat'' of Cheops at the Great Pyramid at Giza.

Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.

Photo is dated 11-11-1954.
