Description
Construction work on the Delta Project Netherlands - to prevent repeat of the 1953 floods: In the province of Zeeland in the South of the Netherlands, where in 1953 the whole country was flooded by the bursting of the dykes - work is now in progress on the construction of the gigantic Delta project. In the "Haringvliet" (River mouth of the Rhine) a building island has been constructed. An enormous tower crane - the largest in Europe measuring 75 m long and 40 m high is being employed to raise the huge triangles forming the spans. There will be seventeen spans with 400 triangles, on the base of which cars will dive. On the other side of the cement triangles the arms of the heavy lock gates will be placed. In 1968, through 17 openings in the sluices - the superfluous water of the Harlingvlist can be disappeared. Roadways will be built over the sluices.
