Huge Japanese Buddha Cracks.. Repairs To A National Treasure - Near Tokyo. The great Daibutsu of Kamakura, near Tokyo - cast in 1252 - and which is considered to be one of the great national treasures of Japan - has developed a number of alarming cracks.. Five expert engineers are at work inside the great construction - filling the cracks with a special compound in order to prolong its existence. The huge Daibutsu represents the Lord of Boundless Light. Keystone Photo Shows:- The head of the huge Buddha - showing some of the cracks in the face and the chest. These are being filled with a special compound.
