Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Munich's Oldest horseman is 85 years old: For almost 80 years now, Maximilian Stattenberger has been mounted on horseback regularly, when he was six years old, his father put him on a horse for the first time. Nowadays, he needs a little help for climbing up even a garbage can does it. But this is understandable since Maximilian Stattenberger is not only 85 years old, but also only 1,55 cmtrs tall. But in spite of his lenght, ''Max'' has always reached what he wanted, in his work as a government councilor as well as a sportsman, when he rode the horse races at Daglfing at the age of 66 that's he started, much too late, as he says and even won! But his horse ''Driesland'', 25 years old now, and he himself are still going strong. Each morning, summer and winter, one can see Maximilian Stattanberger dressed in leather pants and half stockings, smoking a ''Virginia'' on his ride which always takes him into the same direction: the horse racing course at Daglfing, although not to join the races for that both horse and rider are a little too old now. Photo shows Maximilian Stattenberger mounting his horse by the help of a garbage can.
