The prison of Socrates; A short distance from Acropolis lays an ancient cavern - dug in the center of a huge rock. It is a fairly large square room with another inner chamber at the rear. A locked iron gate covers the entrance to the cavern. This is the prison in which ancient Athenians imprisoned Socrates the world's most famous philosopher (469-399 b.c) The prison which has been repaired and modernized throughout the ages lies in a small wood from which a wonderful view of the Acropolis is obtained. Photo Shows The entrance to the prison is closed by a locked iron gate.
