Japan's Famed Tokyo Metropolitan Police Bureau preparing to build new office: For 46 years the present Tokyo Metropolitan Police building stood facing the moat of the Imperial Palace, as a famous landmark of Tokyo as well as the citadel of safety and security. From April, the building will be torn down, and in its place an 18 story building make its debut on the Tokyo skyline. The new office will be completed in June 1980, costing some 100 million U.S. Dollars. The total office space will be 99,000 sq. meters, will have 4 story underground and is designed to endure an earthquake twice the size of the 1923 Kanto earthquake. The present occupants will move out to temporary premises in Shimbashi (The old Mitsui Bldg.) Photo shows the Old Tokyo Metropolitan Police Bureau built in 1931 and has since been a famous Tokyo landmark.
