Delta was ready before anybody! In this case, "Delta" was a bawling baby whose arrival aboard a 600-mile-hour jetliner both startled and delighted the passengers and crew of the airline whose well-known advertising slogan proclaims, "Delta is Ready When Your Are." The mother, 22-year-old Mrs. Edward Liogghio, prompty said she would name her 7lb. 5 oz. son Natalino "Delta". The flight, a Miami-Detroit nonstop, made an unscheduled stop in Atlanta shortly after midnight Monday, March 9, for mother and baby to be taken to South Fulton Hospital. When the birth was announced over the plane's PA system, passengers applauded and took up a collection for flowers for their godchild. Another son, 3 years old, continued aboard the flight to Detroit, where he stayed with relatives. Mr. Liogghio, unaware of the drama 30,000 feet above him, reached Detroit the following day by car and trailer with the family's belongings. Proud stewardess, Penny Gardiner, who delivered the baby with the assistance of Second Officer Sam Barazzone, views the infant through a hospital window here with Mrs. Liogghio.
