The "Day Of The Cock" In Japan. November 21 is the "Day of the cock" in Japan, deifying the God of Good Fortune, and in Tokyo crowds flock to the Hanazono Shrine in the Shinjuku district lit by hundreds of paper lanterns. From stalls in the grounds of the shrine the visitors buy miniature garden rakes made of bamboo "to rake in Good Fortune", and pictures of Treasure Ships to assure good fortune in the coming New Year. Photo: Hundreds of paper lanterns at Hanazono Shrine in Tokyo which is open from sundown to dawn for seekers of good fortune.
