Huge Japanese Buddha develops cracks. Repairs to a national treasure near Tokyo.: The great Daibutsu of Kapakura, near Tokyo cast in 1252 has developed a number of alarming cracks. Now five expert engineers are to work inside the great construction filling the cracks with a special compound in order to prolong its existence. The huge Daibutsu represents the Lord of Boundless Light and is said to be one of the great treasure of Japan. Photo shows a workman inside the head of the huge Buddha places canvas over a crack which has been filled with a special substance.
